Hot Flashes at 30???
Yes! This is my new life.
I’ve been absent from my blog lately trying to figure out what was wrong with me and my body. Recently, I visited the urgent care for treatment of a kidney infection, but ended up in the ER a few days later to find out I had a softball size cyst on my right ovary.
After a visit with my OBGYN and necessary blood tests and a few additional ER visits, we were given the “Big C” scare and surgery was scheduled to remove the cyst and right ovary and have a hysterectomy (uterus and cervix), as well as exploratory surgery to rule out ovarian cancer.
In the days before my surgery, my husband and mom and I discussed a living will and everything from death, resuscitation, removal of the other ovary, cancer, treatment, etc. Needless to say, I was in for a big surprise.
During the surgery my husband and my mom got the fabulous news that it was NOT cancer, however I had stage 4 endometriosis that had diseased pretty much every female part in one’s body. Unexpectedly, I had to have so much more removed than planned, my uterus, cervix, both ovaries, tubes, and since the endometriosis affected my colon and my sigmoid rectum (which is the tube that connects your colon to your rectum), I had to have 6-8” removed of that as well. There are so many problems that can arise from this, but so far, 8 days after surgery, it appears I am healing well and no complications have occurred.
What I was not prepared for…being thrown into extreme menopause so quickly. Sure, I knew that if both ovaries had to be removed, that I would experience it, but Day 3 in the hospital, I shed my first uncontrollable, unexplainable cry. The next night, I enjoyed 3 night sweats, that were so bad I thought I had wet the bed before I really woke up and realized what was going on. :-) Of course, you may be wondering, what about those hot flashes…oh boy, let me tell you! They are hot, hot, hot. I can go from comfortable or cold to the fire of hell released in my chest faster than a racing ferrari.
Regardless of all these new “traits” I have been gifted, I am truly BLESSED! It was believed all of the endometriosis has been found and removed. We are just diligent in prayer for a quick recovery (a good 8 weeks) and that there won’t be unseen disease appear in the future. Once I am in the clear of blood clots, I will be able to be on some type of hormone replacement in order to help with the extreme side affects.
Thank you all for your prayers and support! You have no idea how amazing it makes me feel!!!!
Y’all stay sassy now,
Tif
